Kenny wakes up and looks for Sophia. Finding the door open, he finds her sobbing outside and drags her inside as several Creatures approach. Once inside, he begins to scold her but she explains that her father died. As he comforts her, Mari comes in and rushes to check on Dune.

In Colony House, Elgin leaves his room, but is asked by Boyd to speak in private.  Boyd tells him that it could tear the Town apart if people found out what they both did, telling Elgin to say that he lost his eye trying to find Fatima. Boyd threatens that if Elgin does not do as he says, he will tell everyone that Elgin killed Tillie, and put him in the Box. Elgin warns him that the truth will get out, and Boyd advises him to ensure that it does not.

At the Diner, the jukeboxes wake up Acosta with The Beatles’ “Good Morning Good Morning.” At the Lius’, the Matthews begin to wake with the daylight. Boyd departs Colony House, but noticing something odd, retrieves binoculars and sees a large, bloodied bag suspended from the motel sign.

A crowd gathers around the sign as Tabitha notices the bloody bag from the window and rushes outside. Ethan joins them, demanding to know what is inside the bag, believing it might be his father. Tabitha has Julie take Ethan to the Barn while they investigate. While they walk, Ethan asks his sister for reassurance that they will find Jim, and she promises they will.  Boyd turns to Tabitha, who asks him to retrieve the bag. After he and Jade lower the bag down, Tabitha unties it, only to find a slaughtered goat.

At the Barn, Julie and Ethan open the doors, only to find Jim’s mutilated corpse, tied upside-down to a post. Julie’s screams draw the crowd to the Barn. On the walls, they find the phrase “knowledge comes at a cost” painted on the wall. Tabitha, crying, asks why this was done to him.

At the Clinic, Sophia pretends to pray over Dune’s body, secretly smiling to herself. Afterwards, she asks what will happen to him, and Kenny explains that Boyd, their sheriff and the one who helped her out of the car, will arrange for a burial. She remarks he seemed kind, and Kenny acknowledges that he is the glue that holds the place together. Kenny offers to take her on a walk to the storage room to find her a new pair of glasses to replace her cracked pair.

At the Lius’, Ethan knocks over furniture, blaming his mother for Jim’s death due to their fighting  and telling her he hates her. Julie follows him after he storms away, leaving Tabitha alone and in tears.

In the Barn, Boyd, Jade and Donna retrieve Jim’s body. Donna leaves to check on the Matthews, while Ellis joins his father. The three take the body to the Church, laying it on the cot in the back. Boyd repeats the phrase painted on the wall, pondering its meaning, and Jade tells him they need to talk. Kenny and Sophia find Sara standing by the road to the Barn, and she informs them that Jim was found dead inside. Sara offers to take her to the storage room so Kenny can help, offering condolences for Jim’s death.

In the Bar, Jade explains what they learned at the Bottle Tree after playing the song on the violin, believing Jim was killed because of what they found out. Boyd recalls that Nathan believed that looking for answers was not a good idea, and asks what they should do now. However, Jade has no answers, and Boyd tells him to work on it before he and Ellis leave.

At the Diner, Sara and Sophia find a distressed Acosta. When asked if she’s alright, Acosta tells Sara not to speak to her as if they are friends. Sara then leads Sophia to the storage room.

Meanwhile, Julie sits with Ethan in their room. After he falls asleep, she leaves, not realizing that he has awoken. Downstairs, Julie finds Donna cleaning. Julie leaves to go on a walk, much to Donna’s concern, who tells Julie to rely on her if she needs anything. Julie finds Randall working out, telling him that Jim has died. As he begins to offer condolences, she stops him, telling him she needs her help to go back to the Dungeon ruins so she can save her father. As she walks off, Randall runs after her.

At the Barn, Jade finds Tabitha trying to scrub the message off the walls. She tells him to get out, but he replies that this message confirms their memories are real, however she does not care. Jade sympathizes, but adds that the forces controlling the Township are trying to scare them to keep them from investigating further. Tabitha responds that they succeeded, and begins rebuking Jade for caring about no one but himself, telling him he should have died in Jim’s place before leaving.

Acosta gets in the ambulance and begins to drive, but is stopped by Mari and Kristi, who gets in the passenger seat as Acosta drives off. At the Sheriff’s Station, Boyd tells Kenny about Jim’s death and that Jade has a theory that he believes is promising. Before he can say more, Mari arrives with the news that Acosta took the ambulance and Kristi is with her.

In the storage room at the Diner, Sophia tries on various pairs of glasses in front of Sara, finally finding a pair that both works and looks good. She asks Sara if the items all belong to past inhabitants, remarking that it’s both slightly sad and sweet, given that it leaves a part of them not forgotten. Sara lingers on a ballet trophy before asking Sara if things like Jim’s death happen often. Sara said that the Talismans had made them a rarer occurrence, but they happen more often now. Sophia then asks if Sara has family in Town, and Sara answers not anymore, and offers to get Sophia some food.

Donna hears the ambulance from inside the Lius’ house and rushes outside to investigate as Acosta drives by, drawing Boyd, Kenny and Mari out of the Sheriff’s Station. Noticing that the adults are distracted, Ethan leaves with a  backpack out of the back door. In the ambulance, Acosta believes that the road may not go in a circle, as the ambulance was stopped on the road when she arrived. Kristi asks if she is doing this because of what happened to Elgin, which she criticizes Kristi for allowing. In turn, Kristi points out that what Acosta is doing will likely hurt people, but she simply replies that she is escaping.

Randall catches up to Julie and asks her about her plan. She explains that she plans on time traveling, but Randall is skeptical, and tells her to take a breath. Julie believes that she time traveled the last time she went in the ruins, and has to try to do something to save her father. Randall relents, and asks what he can do to help.

Meanwhile, Tabitha arrives at the Church and finds Jim’s body in the back. She asks him why he did not come home as she was waiting for him. She admits she was angry at him, but thought all night about how she wished she had told him that she loved him at first sight and he was her everything, even with all their fighting and pain. She promises to keep their children safe, and that he does not have to be afraid, and tells him she loves him.

Acosta continues to speed through the main road in Town, refusing to slow down even when  Boyd steps into the street. She insists that there is a way out, and tells Kristi that neither the Talismans nor Boyd will keep them safe. Boyd and Kenny decide to fetch the Spike Strip.

At the Barn, Henry finds Victor in the Barn. Victor tells his father that he should not have come to the Township. Henry tells Victor that when he is ready, he should see Ethan. Victor continues to say that the Township takes everything good away, and Henry should not have come. Henry tells him none of them should be in the Township, but he is thankful he can face it together with his son.

At the Dungeon ruins, Julie has Randall walk through the ruins to make sure that he won’t time travel either, so he can pull her out. she tells him to give her time, even if it looks bad. Julie steps into the ruins, and finds herself in the Forest at night, narrowly evading a group of Creatures. She finds herself outside the RV, and sees her father inside. She watches as he and Donna leave for the van while Boyd fires at the Creatures. She rushes towards them but is thrown to the ground by the Waitress Creature. In the ruins, she begins seizing, while in her vision she begs for Randall to help her. As the Waitress shifts to her monstrous form, Randall pull her out of the ruins and the vision. Telling Randall she saw Jim she tries to crawl back as Randall restrains her.

Tabitha searches for Ethan, find his room empty. On the road, Boyd, Kenny and Mari lay out the spike strip, with Kenny promising Mari that Kristi will be alright. In the ambulance, Acosta explains that she believes hell is for people who think they deserve to suffer, and she does not think that about herself, adding that if the others believed that about themselves, they would try harder to escape. Angered, Kristi tells her she has known multiple people who have tried to escape or figure out the mysteries, and they all died. Acosta grows increasingly erratic, insisting that there is a way to escape. They spot Ethan on the road, and he ducks off to the side. Kristi tells her to pull over, reminding Acosta that he is a lone child who just lost his father but she refuses. As they approach the Spike Strip, Acosta tries to go off-road but Kristi prevents her, popping the tires of the ambulance on the spikes. As Boyd cuffs Acosta, Kristi tells him that they saw Ethan.

Ethan returns to the RV and grabs the radio. Outside, he finds his father, whom he hugs in joy. Ethan explains he came for the radio, even though it is broken, as he hoped to tell the real Thomas that he would no longer be alone. The vision of Jim reminds him that when bad things happen, they must do their best to look out for each other, telling his son to look after his mother and sister. Jim admits he wishes he could stay, but hearing something in the distance, he reminds Ethan of the dream he had about the Lake of Tears. He tells Ethan that the Lake of Tears is real, and he needs to find it. Ethan turns away, hearing his name being called, but when he turns around his father is gone. He is found by Tabitha, who hugs him.
