The steel door at the silo's base is the theory's load-bearing detail. George found it, recognized it from hard drive blueprints, and could not open it. That sequence establishes the door as a designed architectural feature with documented purpose, not a structural anomaly. The most structurally coherent answer is that it connects to tunnels running laterally between silos, and that Juliette's crossing from Silo 17 to Silo 18 used exactly that infrastructure.

The hard drive schematics Lukas repaired for Bernard sharpen this considerably. Those blueprints show tunnels and power lines extending from Silo 18 at multiple levels, not just at the base. That multi-level distribution matters. A single door at the bottom could be dismissed as a sealed emergency exit or an abandoned construction access point. Connections at multiple levels suggest active infrastructure: a system designed for ongoing use rather than one-time construction. The vault access pattern fits the same logic. Only four people have ever been permitted into the vault, and if the vault sits at or near a junction in that multi-level network, the restriction is not about protecting sensitive information stored inside. It is about controlling access to a passage point.

The firefighter suit introduces a specific complication the theory cannot yet resolve: it protects against a toxic exterior environment, which implies Juliette's route ran through or near the surface rather than through sealed internal tunnels. That detail forces a choice between two incompatible crossing models. Either the passage is not a sealed tunnel and exposes travelers to outside conditions, or the suit was necessary for a different segment of the route and sealed tunnels exist separately. The show has not answered which. What it has answered is that the crossing required only the suit and knowledge of the path.

The mechanism is informational as much as physical. Bernard's possession of schematics that silo populations are never shown confirms that the suppression is active and maintained at the administrative level. The barrier between silos was never the architecture. It was the belief, enforced through information control, that the architecture made crossing impossible.
