As the EMTs examine the Fallen Tree blocking the road, Acosta observes how empty the area is. Tabitha exits the ambulance and stares in shock at the tree as the crows begin squawking overhead. Acosta orders the EMTs to find a detour around the tree. As Tabitha mutters that it will not work, Acosta escorts her back to the ambulance.

In the Lius’ kitchen, Ethan examines several of Victor’s drawings when the phone rings. The voice on the other side claims to be Thomas and warns that Tabitha is in trouble and will arrive in an ambulance, urging Ethan to help her and to not be afraid. Jim arrives, and Ethan explains that the voice on the other end is claiming to be Thomas. Jim orders the voice to leave his children alone, but the voice claims that they are not his children anymore. Jim then hangs up and rips the phone off the wall in frustration. Julie witnesses this, and is worried by her father’s state. Jim frantically asks Ethan what the voice said, and Ethan tells him that Tabitha is in trouble.

In Colony House, Nicky and Bakta argue over who will clean up the remains of the crow that flew through the window. Bakta refuses to touch the dead bird, and scolds Tillie for trying to do tarot readings in the Township. Donna breaks up the fight and checks on Elgin, who insists that he is fine.  Meanwhile, Mari examines Fatima, and admits that she is worried about Kristi. Fatima assures her that they have shelter and Talismans, but admits she would feel the same if it were Ellis. Mari notes that Fatima looks better and asks if she has been eating more, and Fatima answers that she found something she can keep down.

In Sara’s house, Victor says that he and his sister used to play in her house during the daytime, and Sara’s house was Eloise’s favorite. Sara asks what they are doing, and Victor explains that he is trying to remember how his mother and the others died in his childhood, noting that too many things are changing in the Township, such as the weather.

The ambulance continues driving through the Forest, with night having fallen. The EMTs suggest turning around, believing they are lost, but Tabitha urges them to keep going forward towards Town. The EMTs remind her that they are looking for the highway.

In the bus, Boyd watches out for the Creatures with Randall, who is skeptical of Boyd’s plan to catch a Creature. Boyd asks why Randall declined his offer to sleep in the Sheriff’s Office. As the two argue, Randall explains that if there is a plan, even a foolish one, to try and get more answers or even escape, he wants to help. Randall admits he was profoundly changed by his experience with the Music Box Monster, and no longer believes death to be the worst fate.

In the Log Cabins, Kristi recuperates while Kenny writes a letter to his mother, as it is tradition to write letters to the dead on high holidays. Kristi reminds him that he is not alone, while Kenny says that it feels like everything he was fighting for and would go home to are gone. Kristi says Kenny can still talk to her. Jade grumpily wakes up and asks if they want to hear something crazy.

As they build a blanket fort in Sara’s basement, Victor explains how he survived by staying in the Root Cellar, but Eloise did not. When Victor emerged, everyone had been killed and he met the Boy in White. Sara is shocked to learn that Victor has also seen him, and Victor says the Boy was his only friend for years. As a child, Victor was unable to bury all of the bodies, but the Boy in White told him to gather precious belongings of the deceased and bury them instead, which is what the suitcase contains. Sara asks why Victor needs her. He admits that he does not want to do this alone as he may have to remember scary things, and she is the scariest person he knows.

In the bus, Randall grows nervous, noting that the Creatures should be walking around. He explains that they have a pattern which they repeat every night. Meanwhile, the ambulance draws closer as Tabitha urges them to get to Town, while Acosta and the EMTs continue to disbelieve her. Boyd and Randall notice their arrival, as do the Matthews from their house. Boyd and Randall exit the bus to help as Ethan comes running out of his house. Boyd grabs him and they run to the house. Ethan explains that the voice on the phone told him that his mother was on the ambulance.

As the ambulance keeps driving, they notice a body on the road. Tabitha frantically tries to prevent them leaving, but Acosta cuffs her to a bar and orders her to calm down. The EMTs begin examining the Creature as Acosta approaches. The Creature then turns into her monstrous form and kills both of the EMTs. Acosta tries shooting the Creature, to no effect. As more Creatures approach, Acosta runs away. Inside the ambulance, Tabitha wakes Henry up. The gunshots are noticed by Boyd, Randall and the Matthews. Jim leaves to help Tabitha, Boyd orders Ethan to stay inside and leaves with Randall in tow. Jim finds Tabitha in the ambulance, followed by Boyd and Randall, who leaves to fetch a toolkit to break the handcuffs.

As Acosta approaches Colony House, the warning bell is rung. She continues firing rounds at the Creatures, and a stray bullet hits Nicky, who was watching from the window. Mari rushes over to tend to her, while Clara gets Acosta inside. Acosta begins panicking when she realizes what she has done, but Donna asks if there are others with her, and Acosta explains what happened.

When Randall returns to the bus, he begins seeing cicadas but ignores them as he rushes back to the ambulance. However, his path is blocked by the Creatures, who he fails to repel with the Talisman. Randall throws Boyd the toolkit and tries to rush back to the bus, but is overpowered by a hallucination of the cicadas. As Boyd searches for the ambulance keys, he is offered them by the Waitress Creature, who says that they get to keep Randall. As the Creatures surround a struggling Randall, the Waitress tells Boyd that he cannot save them all, and he reluctantly takes the keys, leaving Randall with the Creatures.

Aided by Bakta, Ellis and Fatima, Mari removes the bullet from Nicky’s body. Boyd arrives in the ambulance, and with the Matthews helps Henry get inside Colony House. Everyone is shocked to see Tabitha again, and she admonishes Acosta for not listening. Donna takes them to a room upstairs.

In the kitchen, Tillie tells Elgin that she feels bad for Fatima, and believes that the bird was a sign. Elgin then sees the Kimono Woman, and asks if he is awake, much to Tillie’s confusion. Elgin follows her to the hallway, where she asks for help before disappearing.

In the Lius’ house, Ethan asks Julie what will happen if their parents don’t return. Julie urges him not to think like that, but he then asks what happened to her, observing that she has been different since her ordeal with the Music Box Monster. Julie insists that she is fine, but Ethan does not believe her, and requests the truth. Julie admits that she is frightened, having seen things she does not understand, and remembers feeling more scared than ever before. Ethan offers to help, and warns that they will have to take care of each other if their parents don’t return.

In the Log Cabins, Jade talks about the vision of the impaled man he saw the previous day. Kristi asks how long he has been seeing visions, and Jade admits they have been happening since he first arrived. Jade explains that Tian-Chen saw him drawing the Symbol repeatedly and made him tea before finding Christopher’s journal. Kenny tells Jade that his mother really liked Jade. Jade is touched, and tells Kenny to tell her that they all say hi in the letter. The three then hear thumping from outside and Kristi nervously asks if Jade is certain that what he saw were merely hallucinations.

As Victor sorts through the belongings of the deceased, he recalls collecting them as a child. Victor realizes that he doesn’t have something for Christopher, who became “scary” after becoming obsessed with the Symbol. Victor becomes frightened and declares that he does not want to continue, tearing down the blanket fort. Sara tries to calm Victor and assure him that he is okay, reminding him that she is the scariest person in Town. Victor explains that the missing object is the ventriloquist’s doll named Jasper, which used to belong to Christopher.

In Colony House, a distressed Boyd explains that he left Randall behind. Upstairs, Jim and Tabitha talk about Henry and Victor. Tabitha explains that Miranda had visions of the Township prior to her arrival, and that the Boy in White wanted her to find something. She begins crying and apologizing, but Jim reassures her that all that matters is that she is alive and safe. Downstairs, Nicky begins crying out and coughing up blood before dying. Mari tries to administer CPR, to no use. Boyd then spots Acosta nearby and excoriates her for firing wildly in a panic. As Boyd begins to grab her, Donna escorts him upstairs. Boyd expects a lecture, but instead Donna begins sobbing, and Boyd tries to comfort her.

Victor explains that Christopher used to make everyone to laugh with Jasper. After Christopher changed, he stopped making people laugh. Victor remembers that Christopher started spending more time alone, and Victor once found him talking to Jasper, with Jasper talking back. Victor then realizes that Jasper can tell them what happened.

In Colony House, Ellis helps bring Nicky’s body to a bedroom. Fatima regrets being rude to her, and asks to sit with the body alone. After Ellis leaves, Fatima begins consuming the blood from Nicky’s wound.  Downstairs, Boyd and Donna toast to better days when they notice the ambulance’s lights flashing. They peer through the window and see a mutilated Randall propped up on the hood as he regains consciousness.
