Nineteen-year-old Feyre is dragged to the magical faerie realm of Prythian after killing a wolf that was actually a glamoured faerie, and she discovers her captor Tamlin is a cursed High Lord who needs a human to fall in love with him to break his spell. After falling in love with Tamlin and being sent home by him to protect her, Feyre returns to his court when she learns the curse hasn't been broken, and she must survive three brutal trials set by the evil High Queen Amarantha to free Prythian from her rule. When Feyre discovers the answer to Amarantha's riddle is "love" while dying from the queen's magic, the curse breaks and the High Lords resurrect her by transforming her into an immortal High Fae, though she struggles with the guilt of her actions and her new fate.
